Should Hasbro Bring Back Transformers Generation 1? (2024)

First, Masters of the Universe was brought back and picked up where they left off. Now, X-Men the animated series is coming back picking up where they left off in 2023. Marvel Transformers G1 comic was brought back with Regeneration 1. Should Hasbro jump on it too and bring back the G1 cartoon? Then maybe we'll finally see a proper ending to G1 and get to see Powermaster Optimus Prime finally in cartoon form. Especially with the apex armor. I would like to see it.

Hell no. There's too much G1 nostalgia floating around as it is. As incomplete as G1's ending was, we really don't need a sequel or reboot. That's what the WFC trilogy tried to do, and that wasn't received very well. There's plenty of fanfiction and fanart that make a better ending to the G1 cartoon than anything Hasbro could make officially.

One 1 condition, these designs make it in:

And you know, making sure it's really well written to justify it's existence in the current age of "G1 but again".
And I mean like Beast shows or Animated well written.

The last thing this franchise needs, that's actually plausible to happen, is going back to G1 again, immediately after a G1 reboot and multiple heavily G1 evocative entries to the franchise

I would love to see Star Convoy, Laser Prime, and Combat Hero Optimus all animated in Sunbow G1 continuity...

...but retroactively added to before his death, not playing along with The Return of Optimus Prime. He needs to stay fucking dead so Rodimus can be the leader he's meant to be.

No thanks. No "G1" fiction has worked for me since Marvel issue 80. Regen1 felt like a bad "What If?". MOTU Revelations was reviled.

Let's allow G1 to live on gloriously in our memories, rather than doing yet another poor attempt at remaking/continuing it.

Besides, we've already got an additional 3 seasons of G1 thanks to Takara. You can even see PMOP in action there, in the form of Ginrai.

MOTU Revelations kicks all kinds of ass! But I agree, the G1 voices are so iconic, and we know Hasbro won't splurge on any classic voice actors, so I'd say make it a comic book if anything.

Bring it back? Did it ever truly 'leave'?

"Masters of the Universe: Revelation" is a continuation.

The 3D show simply called "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" that came out at the exact same time is a reboot.

Nope! The cartoon ended just before it could get caught up in that hyper-gimmicky bullshit of the late 80s and I really don't want to see concepts like Powermasters or Pretenders revisited in any way, shape, or form.

Which one did Kevin Smith do? that one was all kinds of bad ass.

Well a continuation of the cartoon wouldn't necessarily mean that it has to follow the toy lines that came after. It can just focus on the characters introduced up to rebirth. I wouldn't mind a continuation. But so far none of the continuations are that good so.

That was Revelation, the one that the He-man fandom loves oh so very much and have 0 problems with.

Although fun fact David Kaye is a voice of one of the main characters in the 3D show.

I don’t know… if Optimus isn’t allowed to play basketball, talk about boobies and be the “cool dad” he was in the 80s, then what’s the point?
